Why families choose recreational dance at The Avenue

Our recreational program is built around connection, consistency and confidence.

Students benefit from:

  • A non-competitive, inclusive environment
  • Qualified, encouraging teachers
  • Clear age groupings and progression
  • Opportunities to perform without pressure
  • A strong sense of belonging and community

Many families choose recreational dance because it allows children to enjoy the benefits of dance while balancing school, sport and family life.

Age groups & class pathways

We group our recreational classes by school year to help children feel comfortable and confident as they learn alongside peers at a similar stage.

  • Petites (Kindergarten – Year 2)

A playful introduction to technique, musicality and group work, building confidence and coordination in a fun, nurturing environment.

  • Juniors (Years 3–4)

Classes focus on developing foundational skills, strength and performance confidence, while keeping classes engaging and age-appropriate.

  • Pre-Teen (Years 5–6)

Students build technique, flexibility and performance skills while developing confidence, resilience and teamwork.

  • Teens (Years 7–9)

A supportive space for teens to train, move and express themselves, whether they are continuing dance or starting later than others.

  • Seniors (Years 10+)

For older students who want to keep dancing recreationally, focusing on fitness, technique and enjoyment in a supportive environment.

Dance styles offered

Our recreational program offers a wide range of dance styles, allowing students to explore what they love or try something new.

Available genres include:

  • Jazz

  • Musical Theatre
  • Pom & Cheer

Each style is taught with age-appropriate structure and a focus on enjoyment, technique and personal growth.

Progress through our Milestone Program

At The Avenue, progress is about more than moving up a level.

Our Milestone Recognition Program celebrates effort, consistency and personal development. Students are recognised for their growth, helping build motivation and confidence without relying on competitive outcomes.

This approach supports long-term engagement and a positive relationship with dance.

Performances without pressure

Recreational dancers have the opportunity to perform in our Mid-Year Showcase and End-of-Year Concert. These performances are designed to be positive, confidence-building experiences where students can share what they’ve learned with family and friends.

Participation in performances is encouraged but always supported in a way that prioritises enjoyment and wellbeing.
